2008 FBR Open Charity Golf Classic

Foundation for Blind Children partnered with Desert Voices Oral Learning Center and Thunderbirds Charities to host the 2008 FBR Open Charity Classic on Monday, February 4.  The prestigious tournament followed the celebrated FBR Open on the TPC Stadium Course.  Participants were set to enjoy a modified scramble tournament with professional pin placement and tournament ready conditions, a silent auction, and unrivaled prizes and awards, but Mother Nature had another plan.

An unusual Arizona storm moved in just as foursomes started the course and continued to downpour for the entire afternoon, it even covered the nearby mountain peaks with snow. The unfortunate weather caused an early cancelation of the tournament.  However, players were in good spirits as they waited for the rain to stop in hopes to continue their round and a few continued despite the rain! The tournament ended with foursomes attempting to dry off huddled around heaters, meeting new friends and the open bar.

The FBC golf committee, co-chaired by Board Members Bryan Binstock and Chuck Foley planned for many months along side their tournament partners to make this tournament unforgettable, and unforgettable it turned out to be! Volunteers and staff worked to make sure the experience was enjoyable, in spite of the rain. 

The Charity Classic raised funds for various programs at FBC and Desert Voices. Thanks to the generosity of the Thunderbirds Charities, 100% of the proceeds from the tournament will benefit Foundation for Blind Children and Desert Voices Oral Learning Center.
