Training Schedule
EIGHT: Sunday JULY 11th 7:30AM-4PM
Horton Creek Trail to Horton Springs--bring swim suit
Length: 9.4 mi., strenuous, 1340 ft elevation gain, 7.5 hours hiking time, 1 hr swimming
Directions: Drive 37 miles west of Heber (or 17 miles east of Payson) on Hwy. 260. Turn north onto Tonto Creek Rd (FR289) and drive 1 mi. to the Upper Tonto Creek Campground. Trailhead is in campground, but parking is at the Horton Creek Picnic Site across the bridge.
NINE: Saturday AUGUST 14th : 9AM-4PM
Flagstaff/ Humphreys Peak
Length: 9 miles, 3833 elevation gain, strenuous difficulty, Hiking time: 7 hours
Directions: US Hwy 180 for 7 miles to FR 516 (road into Snow Bowl ski area). Turn north and follow paved route for 7.4 miles to first parking lot on the left. Trail head located at far end.
TEN: Sunday SEPTEMBER 12th : 9AM-3PM
Sedona: Sterling Pass to Vultee Arch---out and back. DO NOT WEAR SHORTS
Length: 5 miles, 1100ft. elevation gain, strenuous, Hiking time: 5 hours
Directions: From junction Hwy 179 and 89A in Sedona. Head north on 89A for 6.5 miles just past mile marker 3881 and Manzanita Campground. There are a few small pull offs (need to car pool or this one b/c of lack of parking) on the west side of the road. Then continue on the road several hundred feet and cross to the east side of the road and you will see a small trail head sign that marks the beginning of the trail.
ELEVEN: GRAND CANYON October 9 & 10th, 2010
- Hike North Rim to South Rim. Length 22 miles, 15 hours
