Family Support Saturday
The FBC invites you to attend one of our Family Support Workshops! These workshops are designed for you, as a parent, family member, or child with a vision impairment gain skills and support as you learn to achieve your goals in life. There are workshop sessions for adults, sibling groups, activities for all children, and child care. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Look at the program and then download the registration form. We look forward to seeing you there!
Maintaining Family Balance During Challenging Times

Track 1:
General Session:
Never Give Up: Imke Durre will share her story of trials and successes as a person living fully with blindness.Concurrent Sessions I (Choose one of the following):
Frugal Families: Learn and share helpful ideas to save money in today’s economy. Facilitator: Deb Herrmann
Spending Plan “In a Pinch”: Receive basic budgeting tips to use when you find yourself struggling to meet monthly bills. Facilitator: Mimi Pruniski
Financial Planning for Children with Special Needs: Learn how to wisely plan for your child’s future financial welfare. Facilitator: Rob DeckellConcurrent Sessions II (Choose one of the following):
Orientation and Mobility: Learn how you can help your visually impaired child safely and independently travel. Facilitator: Sandra Stirnweis
Make and Take Projects: Looking for new ideas to support your child’s learning at no expense to you? Join this session for play ideas that you will “make and take” along with suggestions that can be made from common household items. Facilitator: Lexie Day
Family Resources: Participants receive information about all FBC programs as well as community and national resources for persons living with vision lossCoping with Family Stress Groups
In these open forum groups you will have an opportunity to talk about your stresses and help others to find ideas for solutions for theirs. Groups vary from workshop to workshop based on participants but can include: moms and couples, dads only, extended family members.
Track 2
Transitioning to Adulthood and Adult-Based Services: This all-day track is designed for adolescents 14-18 who plan to go to college to joing the workforce upon graduation from High School. In this track parents and their child will learn together about resources and services to assist with transitioning from high school to adult responsibilities including how to register with Vocational Rehabilitation, what types of training programs are available, and what can be expected in college. A panel of college and former college students which visual impairment swill share their experiences as well.
Cost:
$10 per person with a maximum of $40 per family
