Maricopa Early Intervention Providers Meetings
Meeting Minutes June 5, 2008Updates: 1. First things first: (Pricilla) August or September first moneys going to regions. 22 regions, 10 of 23 tribes are their own regions. Money is there about 1.5 million. Several regions still need board members, long application. The state’s needs assessment is on website. Fill out to help get portion of the money. For more info go to www.azecdh.gov
2. DDD: Tanu Vashist and Carmen Sheets are no longer with DDD. Veronica is on leave so staffing is shifting to help out. Redistricting is happening, Maryvale is new unit, will be on 51st Ave and Indian school, but currently sharing with Avondale office. East valley back to the way it used to be, mostly, as Tanu has left. If you want to know who SC is on a particular child call Gina or email: glowery@azdes.gov . Start date notifications sent out, need to get them sent back. DDD is getting audited so turn in please. Usually asking for therapy ACTUAL start dates not just DSI actual start date. PWN, if adding service to current IFSP need signature on it to start that service. Like if authorized for eval and ongoing service is recommended, need signature on IFSP to start that new service. So therapist: don’t do eval today and start tomorrow cant start service until IFSP is signed. Program registration through NAU needs to be done by June 6. DDD hoping to meet with IPP providers to work through new IPP process.
3. SWHD: Agency is now calling Early Head Start, Infant Toddler Headstart. New director may change it back. They have identified kids that are referred to AzEIP. They complete evals and have lots of information that they can pass on to AsEIP providers and still work with the family supporting AzEIP program. Healthy Families serves all of Maricopa County, so if you know your referral is from Healthy Families call them to get their info. They are happy to partner with team leads. Headstart has 10% mandate to serve kids with disabilities. See flier with zip codes. IFSP team can put them down as community resource that supports the DSI. They are not the DSI. Must try not to overwhelm family with home visitors. Head Start visits are always once a week for 1 ½ hour, healthy family varies. Remember to invite to/put into the IFSP. Healthy families works on parent child relationship. They work with the whole family, so can refer other kids if there is a need that they don’t know very well. Contact Margie Eldridge at 602.266.5976x5600 meldridg@swhd.org for more info.
4. Family Partners: They are getting lots of clients from St Joes. They are contracted with St Joes to serve their AzEIP only kids. They do the DSI work. They can do assessment to refer to DDD but can still keep kids cause have DDD contract. They serve entire county. Not in team based model now. Eventually Child and Family Resources will take over these kids. Who can send distribution list from DDD since Carmen gone?
5. Arise: Carmen Sheets is new assistant director, DDD kids. Cyndy B (from DDD) is co-ordiantor. Keeping DSI is tough because of gas prices. What is everyone else doing to cope with gas prices? From AzEIP, they just say it is in the rate. SWHD tries to keep tight boundaries and that helps.
6. REM: DSI also taking St Joe kids.
7. Salt River Pima Maricopa: Is now fully staffed except for speech therapy.
8. ASDB: ASDB and FBC are happy to come to your agency and train on how to spot/refer kids with suspected hearing or vision loss. Will do second follow up trainings as well. Reach them at: jolson@asdb.state.az.us and mgamez@seeitourway.org . Susan R request: DDD map with redistricting, can you send zip code list with that info. Fran will forward on.
Questions: Who writes IFSP, DDD facilitates meeting but who writes? Contract states that facilitates and complete, so IPP does IPP portion (first half) and DDD writes from outcomes to the end? Anyone can be the person writing the IFSP? We should worry about audit and making sure that if it is your agency’s part to audit you should take responsibility for those parts. From family’s perspective it may help is transferring case that can start by handing off IFSP to SC taking over. SWHD is thinking of leaving IPP/IFSP pages behind so family has ideas of what is going to happen and can better advocate for their kids. DDD will be leaving black IFSP packet in registration packet. (NEED AzEIP HERE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS) We want AzEIP representative here at each meeting. They can chose who to send. (If there is any information that requires correction, please contact mgamez@seeitoureay.org)
