Parent Navigator - Family Services

The Foundation for Blind Children Family Services Department was created to promote resiliency and the healthy adjustment of visually-impaired youth and their families within the community.  For this reason, FBC offers ongoing family groups that address the many challenges that come with parenting and raising a child with a visual impairment.  FBC offers group activities for the whole family, focusing on cohesion, emotional bonding, parenting, communication, boundaries and self-care to meet the needs of all family members. Groups range from support in the form of couples groups to moms, dads, and grandparents groups.  Groups meet at all three of our campuses (East Valley, West Valley and Central Phoenix) on a monthly basis. Monthly family activities are also coordinated to provide fun and support to the entire family.

The FBC recognizes the important role that parents play in helping their children develop into independent and successful adults.  We believe that parents are not only a child's first teacher, but also their first advocate.  In order for a child to be successful parents must have appropriate and high expectations of their children, believing that their child can be successful in life. For this reason the family services department has launched its Parent Navigator program to provide initial and life-long support to address the questions and needs of our families as they arise.

We can help you navigate issues like advocacy in schools and with medical providers, housing, Social Security, Medicaid, and income, food boxes, auditory and print services, therapy services, partnering incoming families with senior families, coordinating the donation and exchange of equipment your child has outgrown or may have a need for, but most importantly, cultivating the belief that your child is capable and deserving of every opportunity available.

If you would like to learn more about our services, what Parent Navigator can do for you, or how you can be involved please contact the Family Services Department at 602.678.5806.
