JOB AND EDUCATION SITE ANALYSIS

A job or education site analysis is a comprehensive analytical process used to identify the technology product or products which are necessary to allow a blind or visually impaired person to complete the required duties, tasks, and/or assignments of his or her job or education. This is done by evaluating things such as:

  • Each task, duty, an/or assignment to be performed
  • Qualifications and/or abilities required of the person who must perform the duties, tasks, and/or assignments
  • The environment of the job or education site, looking at things such as climate, lighting, noise level, proximity to others, availability of electrical power, etc.
  • Computer system(s) currently in place
  • Other equipment used

Once the type of technology or technologies have been identified, we test specific products to ensure products put in place will meet the needs of the blind or visually impaired person and will be fully compatible with the computer system(s) and other equipment used.

Then we provide a written report outlining our findings and recommendations. In addition to recommending the best technology solution, this report may also outline recommendations for adjustments to the environment, need for training, and/or task modification. Next, we install and configure the recommended technology ensuring it is fully ready for use. Finally, we provide training to the user and the person(s) who will work with the user on the job or in the education setting.

This process is done as a partnership between us and the employer or school staff. We encourage any staff member who will have involvement with the process or blind/visually impaired person to participate fully in the process and make sure to keep those in charge of the project fully informed as to the status of the project.

We always make sure to have the person responsible for the computer system(s) with us and make sure they fully understand what we are doing and get their permission to proceed before doing any analysis or testing. The charge for this service is $80.00 per hour. This fee is normally paid by a school district or vocational rehabilitation agency.
